Beethoven’s Sonata in D Major, Op. 10 No. 3 was composed in 1797-98. Czerny called the Sonata a ‘grand and significant’ piece and it is considered one of Beethoven’s earliest masterpieces. The opening Presto movement conveys great energy that is sustained throughout with a dramatic, and unusual, shift to the key of B flat major at the start of the development section.
