The Sinfonia is the first movement in Bach’s Partita No. 2 in C Minor written in 1726. This one movement offers a glimpse of the remarkable variety that Bach brought to so many of his other works. Consisting of three contrasting sections, the first section (Grave Adagio) opens with a dramatic statement in overture style; the next section (Andante) explores a simple lyrical theme that is sustained through long phrases; the third and final section reveals an intricately developed fugal theme.
